The Bancroft Library is the primary special collections library at the University of California, Berkeley. One of the largest and most heavily used libraries of manuscripts, rare books, and unique materials in the United States, Bancroft supports major research and instructional activities and plays a leading role in the development of the University’s research collections.
Bancroft’s holdings include:

- 8,000,000 photographs/pictorial materials
- 43,000 microforms
- 23,000 maps
The Digital Collection Unit (DCU) of The Bancroft Library is responsible for creating and maintaining our online collections including creation of digital versions of our collection materials, as well as management of incoming born-digital materials and electronic records. The DCU provides digital services, management, preservation and access to digital collections from the Bancroft.
